IELTS preparation

6 November 2010

This is the first class on the IELTS training; I was curious what it would be like. Will it be boring or will it be a fun class. We don’t have to introduced our names first because we’ve already know each other with the exception for Lala because she never met with the teacher before. The class begun by playing an auction game, it was fun and challenging and everybody had a great laugh. This activities had give me a point of view where I can see my strength and weaknesses in speaking English and also I have never done this before so it was a new challenge for me.

10 November 2010

The second class was boring as it was Wednesday afternoon where I was tired because of school. There were two teachers on that day, the other one was an Australian with British accent, I was having a difficult time to understand him the first time because I had never been taught with a teacher who has a British accent. I had to listen to him carefully even though I didn’t quite get what he was trying to say. The lesson was good as it prepared me for IELTS test which I will be taking in the future.

13November 2010

This would be the third time we came to the Redwood academy. That is the name of the place where I and my friends go twice a week to do preparations for IELTS. This time it was Saturday morning and I was very sleepy. There are two teachers also that day and both of them taught us how to face the IELTS especially in writing and speaking. I didn’t do very well on my writing test, but when the teacher explained to me how to do it properly to get a good mark my confident went up and sure that I am going to get a good mark later when I took the real test.

20 November 2010

After four meetings with the Red Wood academy, I feel a little bit lazy to come to the IELTS preparation class. But I have to come because I already paid for it and I have to prepare for my IELTS test later on. We were continuing with the writing and speaking practice because that is the part that we needed to practice on for the test. I really want to get a good score on the IELTS test later so I can get into a good university. I needed to learn the strategy that I have never learned before so I can get a high score and thus it would add knowledge for me because it is a new thing to learn how to get a good mark on the test.

22 November 2010

We have this class on Monday after school because I have to make up for the last class that we missed due to school holiday and I have to go to Bandung so I wasn’t able to make it on last Wednesday. So I have to go from Bandung really early and have the class on Bogor. Of course because of that I was really sleepy and when I was having the class I was having trouble concentrating and not focus with the lesson. And so I think that today lesson was not efficient as I am not prepared physically, this is because I am tired from the home trip that I took in the morning that caused me to be sleepy and unable to focus on the lesson efficiently.

24 November 2010

Today would be the sixth meeting that I have on this lesson and today is Wednesday and I had this class afterschool. Today I continuing on learning how to do the test properly so I can score high, today we learn how to do the reading test by practicing reading and the teacher told us how to do it efficiently so we won’t be wasting so much time and would get a correct answer. I think what I got from today lesson was good for me as I can improve my score in the reading and raise the overall score of the test. When the teacher told about the strategy it became much easier for me to do the test properly and I am pretty optimistic that I can get a good enough score when I took the test later on.

27 November 2010

Today we started to get more practice and practice because we only have two classes left to prepare for the next test. We practiced ourselves so later we would get used to the test and we would do more time efficient and easier as there is a saying that stated “practice makes perfect”. I was pretty confident that I would be able to get a good grade, at least good enough for me to fulfill universities requirement grade.

1 December

Today we were having our second last meeting with the teacher and I was pretty excited that I am almost done with the IELTS preparation. By taking this preparation, it has build up my confident to do well on the real test on the 18th December 2010. I know how to do the test and what to write and not to write in order to get a good mark. As usual we were practicing our skill on how to write a good essay and how to read the text carefully and how to use a good choice of word in order to get a good mark.

4 December

This would be the last meeting that we have. Today we are going to take another pre-test of the IELTS so we would know how far we have we improved since taking the preparation of IELTS. The result will be sent back to us and then we would be able to examine ourselves and will know what to improve before the 18th of December.

Painting the elementary school

February 12 2011

In this Saturday me and a few of my friends decided to paint an elementary school located right in front of my school. We have been planning this activities since last week and prepared the equipment required to do complete this task. The day before we bought 4 buckets of white paint from the shop and pick up some brush to paint the wall of Babakan Madang elementary school. We started around 10 o'clock in the morning, it took us around an hour to prepared the paint. we started painting at 11 o'clock and stop at around 2 or 3 o'clock in the afternoon. We didn't finish painting because the teacher there told us that they were the one that are going finish the rest. There were only 1 more wall that needed to be painted that day and so me and my friends decided to stop and call it a day. There are many lessons that I learned that day, one of them would be how to paint a wall properly and how to mix them up with the right amount of water so it makes a good color of white paint. I also learned how to make work together as team where we split up the work so the task would be completed a lot sooner. In conclusion the CAS was successful and everyone got something out of it.

CAS Journal (Present Worship)

Present Worship

May 7th 2010

On this day four of my friends and I were scheduled to play songs in the chapel at school. We were to play three songs and it is up to us what the songs to be play during chapel are. We decided to play, “From the inside out”, “tell the world”, “above all”. We have a different drummer for this time because the other drummer is away for the training center for the choir completion. So we have to practice hard because we have to be able to connect ourselves with the new drummer. We spent 3-4 hours in total in that week to practice the songs. In practice we met different obstacle and overcome it such as, when one of us did a mistake in the song we have to repeat it from the beginning or I have to learn something new that I have never play before and it was quite hard for me. When it was the time to play our songs in chapel I think overall we did an excellent job as whole. I learned that by practice ourselves diligently we would be able to play the song smoothly. Just like a saying” practice makes perfect”.

1. I increased my awareness of my strength and areas for growth

2. I showed perseverance and commitment

3. I considered the ethical implication towards my action

4. I developed new skills

May 2nd 2010

This is the second time that me and four of my friends were ask to play for chapel on Friday. Just like the last time, we were to play three songs that we were given responsibility to decide what are the song. We decided to bring, “From the Inside out”, “I Believe”, “dffdsfds”. In one of the song that we are going to perform I have play a lead which I have never done it before, that was new for me and I have to be able to do it. In total we’ve spent 2-3 hours for us to practice the songs but it wasn’t enough for we didn’t do very well one on of the song due to our lack of concentration during practice time. So I learned that we have to focus ourselves in order to be able to give our maximum effort on something.

1. I increased my awareness of my strength and areas for growth

2. I showed perseverance and commitment

3. I considered the ethical implication towards my action

4. I developed new skills

March 5th 2010

Pak Agung has asked us to play for the chapel on March 5th; I was asked to choose the songs that the band I am in to be play later on. But I was really confused on choosing the song that me and the rest of the band member will play at chapel time. So, we decided to discussed it together and we’ve come to conclusion to play the following song: “Di Bawah Kepak Sayapmu”, “No one else knows”, “above all”. We didn’t have very good practice time that week for we wasted some practice time to play around and also on the day of the chapel when we had a morning practice Pak Agung suddenly change the chords for “No one else Knows”. Because of that, I didn’t play well enough and I did many mistakes playing the piano chords. I learned that I have to be able to prepared for anything that unpredictable and I have to us the practice time wisely and efficiently .

1. I increased my awareness of my strength and areas for growth

2. I showed perseverance and commitment

3. I considered the ethical implication towards my action

4. I developed new skills

11th August 2010

This Wednesday I and my band have been scheduled to do a present worship on 20th of August. At first were having difficulties on choosing which song we should play on that day. We have to think whether the song is boring or not and is it appropriate or not. After thinking about which song should we play we decided to play “tell the world that” and “lord you are good”. So the practice began and it wasn’t so good because it was the first time we practice and in my personal judgment we have to do more practice before we can play the song fluently without making lots of mistake.

18th August 2010

On this day we practice the song that we have decided to perform on the 20th August. We practiced seriously so we can get better on playing the song due to the number of days that we have to practice the song. We only have this day before August 20th so we must be able to practice the song until we play it smoothly without making lots of mistake. Also we just found out that the day of the performance day is actually the theme school launching, so the whole school will be watching us performing on that day. Knowing that fact I became more nervous about performing on August 20th and I was hoping that I wouldn’t make lots of mistake.

20th August

This was the day that we were going to perform, the chapel was held in the gym where the whole school will be watching. We were asked to play two song of our own choice and we chose “tell the world that” and “lord you are good”. The performance on that day went pretty well, we play the song fluently with little mistake. I was satisfied with the way I played and how the other member of the band performs and I think it was a success for our band because we have never performed that good before. Also from our friends feedback we perform pretty good and they like it, even some people say it was “cool”.

27th August

On this Friday we had a chapel on the music room unlike last week where the chapel is in the gym. What we didn’t know that day was that we are supposed to perform again. Therefore we haven’t prepared any songs for that week and we were force to play the song from last week. I was pretty surprised and upset for the late notice from the teacher and so because of that our band didn’t really prepare to perform that day. From my judgment we didn’t play really well that day as I made lots of mistake and I am not satisfied with my performance.

Creativity, Action, Service: CAS Journal (Drama)

8th October 2009

This was the first drama meeting for the set construction after the first quarter break. We were discussing about the making of set constructing on Saturday. We were discussing about what to do and what to bring on the day that we are going to make. On the discussion we talked about what the color of paint that we should bring on Saturday, and we decided that we should bring white, black, brown and green. We also deciding what the sheriff’s office will design are going to be, and we decided to put two jails and posters of wanted persons on the sheriff’s office wall. We also discussed who’s going to bring the tools to cut the woods; we decided that Agung and Hadrian will bring the tools to the school on Saturday. The meeting ended on 6 o’clock and I was really tired that day .

LOs that I have achieved are:

1. I increased my awareness of my strength and areas for growth

2. I undertook new challenge

3. I showed perseverance and commitment

4. I considered the ethical implication towards my action

5. I developed new skills

10th October 2009

This is the day where we meet at a Saturday and work on the set construction rather than planning how to do it. We have met an agreement that we would meet at the Gym around 10 o’clock in the morning. It was a sunny day to start with and I was assigned to borrow some equipments to cut the woods from the DT room which I already asked the permission of Ibu Lisa to take some of the stuff to be used in the making of the set. Also Agung brought some equipment that made us easy to cut the woods and shape them as we wanted them to be. We started by tearing down the paint that are on the panel from the last drama. After that the set construction people were divided into two groups which one group will be in charge of making the balcony using woods, and the other groups will be in charge on painting the panel according to the background of the Drama is going to be. So I was in the group where I was supposed to be making the balcony and we started by making the top part of a balcony. As the top part of the balcony finished it was already 3 o’clock and we continue until 4:30 to make the bottom part of the balcony which we weren’t able to finish that day. I was pretty nervous on making the balcony because it was a new thing for me that I have never done this before. It was really hard but Agung handling it really well; he seems used to this kind of stuff. I learned lots of things from this activity.

LOs that I have achieved are:

1. I increased my awareness of my strength and areas for growth

2. I undertook new challenge

3. I showed perseverance and commitment

4. I considered the ethical implication towards my action

5. I developed new skills

30th October 2009

On this last day of school the set construction crew had a meeting after school to work on the unfinished things that were supposed to be done before the first rehearsal of the drama begun. When we work on the set construction all of us came except for one person that is Agung for he was sick and cannot attend to school that day. At first we didn’t know what kind of sickness that he was having. As Agung wasn’t coming me and Hadrian cannot work on the half finished balcony because Agung has the equipment and the skills to make it. So in exchange of that I joined the rest of the set construction crew to make the 3D bricks using old newspaper. I have never made this before so this is a new thing for me to be experiencing. It was not that hard to make bricks out of newspaper but it surely was taking lots of time. After we finished making it we have to stick it to the panel that we have prepared before and that takes up most of our working time as Abel said that it was needed to be looks like a real bricks. So we have to align it neatly in order for it to looks real. We start at 3:30 and we finished at 6:30, which means that I worked on the panel for 3 hours.

LOs that I have achieved are:

1. I increased my awareness of my strength and areas for growth

2. I undertook new challenge

3. I showed perseverance and commitment

4. I considered the ethical implication towards my action

5. I developed new skills

Action: CAS Journal (Driving lesson)

Saturday, 19 September 2009

CAS Journal

On this CAS activity, I was given a driving lesson by a license teacher, Pak Arfa. The plan was that I am going to learn how to drive a car and then will be test to get my license to drive a car. This was the first day of many to practice how to drive. On this first day we start at 8:30 in the morning, I was taught how to change gears from 1-2 and when to change the gears for example from 3-2 or 2-1, and so on. I didn’t get used to it at first but as I tried it for a few times I got used to it. At first the practice was done at an empty field but as I got used to changing gears and controlling the car, I was encouraged by Pak Arfa to drive the car into the street. As I drive around in the street I learned a lot on when the proper time to change gears is and when to speed up or slow down. Of course I was still afraid to speed up because it was my first time on the street and I didn’t want to crash into something. So I drive the car at the regular speed to avoid something bad from being happening.

As we drive around the city (Sorowako), Pak Arfa also teach me how to do a reverse parking, and what to pay attention to when we are reversing our car. We have to watch the rearview mirrors in order to prevent the back of the car to hit something that we can’t see. We have to see both of the rearview mirrors to see both back sides of the car. We also have to watch for the speed of the car when we are reversing the car. Pak Arfah told me that I shouldn’t do it hastily but slowly so we can hit the break if something was on the way of our car.

On this CAS activity I had achieved the following LO, which are:

1. I increased my awareness of my strength and areas for growth

2. I undertook new challenge

3. I showed perseverance and commitment

4. I considered the ethical implication towards my action

5. I developed new skills

Tuesday, 22 September 2009

CAS Journal, I was continued given a driving lesson by Pak Arfa. We start at 4:30 in the afternoon because it was a weekdays. On that we no longer start to learn how to change gears but we started to go out on the street to get used to drive the car. He told me to drive into another small city called Wawondula. It approximately 20 minutes drive from Sorowako which about 20 km from my hometown.

As I start the lesson I was a little bit nervous because there are so many cars that are on the road that day. I also feel that I was not ready yet to take the car into the main road, but it was necessary so that I could learn how to drive the car safely. The planned was, I was to drive to Wawondula and then head back to Sorowako. There were many new things that I learned on that day, such as when to getting ahead of the car that is in front of us safely and what gears was used when the road was downwards. I also learn not to speed up when there is a turn ahead because if we speed up then we won’t be able to make the turn.

On this CAS activity I had achieved the following LO, which are:

1. I had increased my awareness of my strength and areas for growth

2. I undertook new challenges

3. I showed perseverance and commitment

4. I considered ethical implications of my actions

5. I developed new skills.

Sunday, 27 September 2009

This was the 5th lesson from 5 lessons of driving, Pak Arfa told me to drive to Wawondula again. I decided not to write journal on the entire driving lesson because I only need to do CAS for 3 hours. On this last trip he decided to teach me how park between cars on a parking lot. He told me that there is a way so we can do this easily without hitting the car that we are trying to park between. One way would be to keep our focus on the car to our left when we turn the steer to the left, that way when we already in line with the car we can turn the steer back to the left with only 2 spin so the car will line up nicely without hitting the car that are on the right and left side of my car. After I had done this successfully he said that he already gave me all the knowledge that he has about how to drive a car safely.

The LO’s that I’ve achieved are:

1. I had increased my awareness of my strength and areas for growth

2. I undertook new challenges

3. I showed perseverance and commitment

4. I considered ethical implications of my actions

5. I developed new skills.

Action: CAS Journal (Soccer)

8th September 2009

On this day we start our practice at 4:15 in the afternoon, today the one the trained us is Pak Lily and Pak Badung. The first part was with Pak Badung, he told us to warming up ourselves before the practice. After the warming up we pass the balls to each other so we can make our pass better. The passing was done with pairs, then one person will run backward and pass the ball to the person at front of him as the person at the front of him running towards the person that are passing the ball before. And we will take turn to do that as we reached the side of the soccer field. Not long after we finished our passing practice with our partner Pak Lily called us to join him. As we reached him we saw a field full of obstacle, I have never seen this before so this is the first time that I will be practicing with these kind of obstacle. The obstacles were consisting of jumping lines of metal, zig-zag run, sprint, and then push-ups and last but not least sit-up. We have to do this for five times as we circle the small soccer field. It was very exhausting because I have never come across such training before. Pak Lily called this a physical training to improve our stamina to withstand the game without getting tired easily. When we have good stamina we will have good chances of winning the soccer match. The practice was ended with dividing the teams into two and we played against each other.

LOs that I have achieved are:

1. I increased my awareness of my strength and areas for growth

2. I undertook new challenge

3. I showed perseverance and commitment

4. I considered the ethical implication towards my action

5. I developed new skills

11th September 2009

On this soccer practices we start at approximately 4 o’clock in the afternoon. We first do the warming up first. The purpose of the warming up was to prevent our body from being cramp while doing the soccer practice. The warming up consist of many activities that I have never come across before such as, kicking our foot high into the air one foot at a time, sprint, zig-zag run, etc. After the warming up, we continue to make a circle then dividing ourselves into groups which the groups inside the circle will pass the ball with the persons that were making the circle. After that the trainer told us to put 3 pairs inside the circle and they will go against each other and try to prevent each other making a completer pass. It was quite hard to do, what makes it even harder was the rain, it was raining that day making it difficult to control the ball because it was slippery. Also it was quite hard to see the person that we have to pass the ball to. After the training we play the game which consists of 6 persons per groups. The group was divided by the trainer so the team was well balanced and has 50-50 chance of winning from another team.

LO’s that I have achieved:

1. I increased my awareness of my strength and areas for growth

2. I undertook new challenge

3. I showed perseverance and commitment

4. I considered the ethical implication towards my action

5. I developed new skills

15th September 2009

For this last practice of the week before the first quarter break, we practiced similar with the practice that we had on September 8th. We warm ourselves up to avoid cramp of our foot from being happening while practicing. The only difference from September 8th was, it was not really a tiring practice where there were metal that we have to jump. On this practice we just have to do running zig-zag, sprinting, and pass the ball around. After the practice we had a game match.

LOs that I have achieved are:

1. I increased my awareness of my strength and areas for growth

2. I undertook new challenge

3. I showed perseverance and commitment

4. I considered the ethical implication towards my action

5. I developed new skills

2nd October 2009

This was the first practice that we had since the quarter one break. We were practicing ourselves for the Gandhi tournament that is going to occurred on the 27th October 2009. The Gandhi cup will be held at BSD, and there will be two teams that are going to play in that tournament from this school. On this practice, we decided to just have a game match since we haven’t play for two weeks because of the school holiday. The game went on for 45-60 minutes, but I do learn one thing that I was pretty good at attacking but I don’t want to do it so often because I usually came back to defend late. Also I learned that we have to be able to work properly with our teammate in order for us to win the match.

LOs that I have achieved are:

1. I increased my awareness of my strength and areas for growth

2. I undertook new challenge

3. I showed perseverance and commitment

4. I considered the ethical implication towards my action

5. I developed new skills

6th October 2009

In this soccer practice we were divided into two teams which are team A and team B. But before we had the match between team A and team B, we did our warm up like the usual practice. We sprint, ran zig-zag, jump, and pass ball around. Also we practiced what strategy would be best to be used for the match, and how to defend when we are being attack by the enemy. I learned a lot on this practice by learning what a good strategy to be used on the play. I also learn how to be a goalkeeper that day because I was playing as a goalkeeper at that soccer practice. I wasn’t really good though even though I was able to block several shots but my reflex were not good to be a goalkeeper. The match went on until around 5 past 15, we were all really tired that day.

LOs that I have achieved are:

1. I increased my awareness of my strength and areas for growth

2. I undertook new challenge

3. I showed perseverance and commitment

4. I considered the ethical implication towards my action

5. I developed new skills

13th October 2009

This was the last practice that our team going to have before facing the big match at the Gandhi Cup. Before the practice started the sky looks grey and cloudy, as it turned out to just like the sky showed rain began to fell. It was a really big rain, the practice started with so warming up like usual and then the match began with team A versus team B. The match was fun but with the big rain it was pretty hard to control the ball or passing the ball. The water that fell on the grass made the grass slippery and watery making it hard for players to pass the ball to each other. From that experience we I can learn many things such as how to control the ball better when it is in a watery condition. From that I have improved new skills.

LOs that I have achieved are:

1. I increased my awareness of my strength and areas for growth

2. I undertook new challenge

3. I showed perseverance and commitment

4. I considered the ethical implication towards my action

5. I developed new skills

17th October 2009

This was the day where the Gandhi cup was being held and the soccer team of SPH Sentul City depart from the dorm at approximately 6 o’clock in the morning. I was very nervous with the match just like the other guys on the team. It was my first tournament since I join the soccer team and I believed it would give me lots of new experience that I have never got before just by practicing on usual practice day. We arrived at the place at 8:30 where the opening ceremony was started a few minutes after we arrived. Our first match was at 9 o’clock which we will be playing with AIS (Australia International School). Even though we won on the first match I didn’t play on it because we ran out of time. But I played on the second and third game. On the third game I was playing as a Defense Mid-fielder, which I have never play on this position before. It was very strange at first but the basic idea was the same which is to counter all the attacks from the middle and support the right and left back. On that day I got much new experience that I couldn’t get just by practicing.

LOs that I have achieved are:

1. I increased my awareness of my strength and areas for growth

2. I undertook new challenge

3. I showed perseverance and commitment

4. I considered the ethical implication towards my action

5. I developed new skills

24th October 2009

This is the final day that the SPHSC soccer team will be attending the Gandhi Cup. Our match was against CSA (a football club). This match is important because if my team loses or ties with the other team my team will not play another match and we will only get the 2nd place. But if we win the match we will play other matches and can go to take the 1st place from the two divisions which are divisions A and divisions B. The match started at 9:00 and we arrived at 8:45, so my teams only has 15 minutes of preparation and to set what formation we will be using. Pak Lili decided to use the 2 3 2 formation. At the first half both team played well and each team score 1 goal. At the second half our team really gave the other team hard times because our team kept pushing their defense and there are lots of chances that my team had to win that match. But the outcome of the match is tie for both teams. So after that match we didn’t play again and we went home to SPHSC.

LOs that I have achieved are:

1. I increased my awareness of my strength and areas for growth

2. I undertook new challenge

3. I showed perseverance and commitment

4. I considered the ethical implication towards my action

5. I developed new skills

4th February 2010

On this day my school the Sekolah Pelita Harapan Sentul City was helding a sport event called Sport festival. In this event my soccer team decided to play in this event, our coach Pak Lily had sign us up to play in this competition. Other in joining the soccer team I also signed up to be PIC or person in charge. What I have to do is basically helping the student council members to control all the matches whether it is soccer, basketball or modern dance and many more to be going well and hopefully with no disturbance. From joining as a PIC I learned that I have to be commitment for what I have signed up for and I also have to do all my jobs that I was assign.

LOs that I have achieved are:

1. I increased my awareness of my strength and areas for growth

2. I undertook new challenge

3. I showed perseverance and commitment

4. I considered the ethical implication towards my action

5. I developed new skills
